Question and Answer
Q: Does my notebook have the FLU? I own a HP ENVY notebook with Windows 10 and really like it and use it all day for work and play. I run a ton of apps and I spend hours per day on the Internet. It seems like my system recently got whacked with a virus or something worse. It will be running great and then suddenly it will start running slow and I can see my CPU and memory are being consumed. When it acts up, I have to wait a few minutes and end up having to reboot. My AV software doesn't find anything. I've killed all the apps that hog resources, but nothing has helped. I'm thinking my system needs to be cleaned up and given a tune-up. I'm afraid I have a problem that may become a bigger issue. Any thoughts or suggestions on what the cause is?

A: You're certainly not alone with your situation. After 25 years in the system optimization space we know that without the proper maintenance, a PC will slow down and become vulnerable over time. Your problem could be several things such as a virus, corrupt or some missing files or your Windows OS itself. To safely check and fix your HP's problem we recommend that you try Windows Repair Tool. More than 50 million users since 2007 have relied on Windows Repair Tool to maintain and restore their PCs. First, Windows Repair Tool will check your PC with their deep system scan technology. 95% this finds a problem or an issue that needs attention. Next, Windows Repair Tool will safely repair your system by actually restoring Windows and will repair all of the serious errors on your PC, including the removal of a virus, spyware and even malware. Finally, Windows Repair Tool has patented technology that reverses any damage to Windows by replacing bad or corrupt files on your system. The new version of Windows Repair Tool is free to use as often as you like. Try it out and let us know the outcome.

Q: Today I was assigned what seems like a daunting task at work. I have to update all of the software on 11+ PCs running Windows 8 and 10. My boss read that running old software on our PCs is a security threat. Is there a good website to find the latest software or better yet a tool that I can use to easily see what apps are installed and if there's a newer version available to download?
– Dove C. Dallas, TX

A: Running out-of-date software is a security risk and leaves you vulnerable to hackers. It's one of the key reasons software vendors release new versions that include the latest security patches. To be fully protected, you should update your software regularly. eSupport.com recommends Software Updater. This free program will quickly identify all of a PC's installed software. Next, Software Updater instantly compares your software version to a real-time database of more than 10,000 up-to-date applications from thousands of companies. Finally, Software Updater instantly provides users with the newest versions for simple installation.

Driver Tip: Why You Should Always Keep Drivers Up To Date

Drivers are simply a piece of software that allows higher level computer programs like Windows to interact with a hardware device. In other words, a driver allows Windows to recognize and work with the hardware in your computer. Windows itself incorporates some basic drivers for things like mice and keyboards but most drivers are created by the manufacturer of the specific hardware device.

Drivers are required for integral devices like graphics cards, sound cards, wireless adapters and network (wired/LAN) adapters but are also needed for external hardware like printers, webcams and scanners.

Updating a driver is often a useful first step in troubleshooting any hardware related issue in Windows. Also, driver updates are often released to fix an issue with how Windows works with a piece of hardware or to enable new features for it. Therefore, even if your hardware appears to be working fine now, we normally recommend updating drivers as a preemptive measure. This helps ensure that you don’t have issues in the future, especially if the date of your existing driver is already more than a year old.
