Question and Answer
Q: Can you please explain why a PC becomes slow and unstable at times as you use them? I'm running a fast Intel i5 CPU with 8 gigs of RAM. In my case my PC began acting up after a recent Windows 10 update. It's not unusual to wait minutes for my two year old ThinkPad to boot-up. Recently I started getting a corrupt or missing file warning, which forces me to reboot. I called Lenovo support and the tech told me it's possibly a corrupt Windows file, perhaps a hidden virus or an invalid or corrupt Windows registry. It might be malware or a virus even though my antivirus says my PC is clean. The tech suggested I reinstall Windows or find an app to repair Windows. Reinstalling Windows is not an option. I can't risk losing all my data. Can you recommend the best solution to discover the problem and actually possibly Windows?
– Lauren N. Fort Worth, TX

A: The best solution to repair and actually restore Windows is a free app called Windows Repair Tool. ince 2007 millions of PC users have used Windows Repair Tool to find and repair every Windows problem ranging from missing or corrupt files, viruses, malware and other nasty junk that damage PC performance. Windows Repair Tool safely diagnoses your system and provides a complete system report. Next, this tool will safely repair and actually restore Windows without requiring a reinstall. The Windows Repair Tool has patented Windows repair and restore technology that replaces important system files that have been damaged. Think of it as a total PC and Windows tune up without performing a risky Windows reinstall. Windows Repair Tool will repair and optimize your PC safely and return it to peak performance. And Windows Repair Tool is free to use.

Q: Wow! Where did all my hard drive space go? My two year old Acer PC's 250GB hard drive is nearly filled to capacity. I started going through my files and removing duplicates, but it was taking forever. After an hour I barely made a dent. What is the fastest and safest way to find duplicate and similar files, especially photos and videos on a computer?
– Stephen B. Boca Grand, FL

A: Finding and removing duplicates can be tricky. The best tool we've tested and suggest for finding duplicate and similar files is Easy Duplicate Finder. This tool is safe and easy to use and works great. Just download the app and choose the drive or folder you want to scan for duplicates. Next, choose the duplicate files that you want to manage. A side benefit to cleaning up your hard drive with Easy Duplicate Finder is speed. A clean hard drive results in a faster PC.

Driver Tip: Resolving Driver Issues

Whether you have recently installed a device or it came pre-installed, you will definitely have problems if the right driver isn’t installed, or has become corrupted. Here are some of the things you can try to resolve a driver related issue: Restart the computer – Before you do anything, try a simple restart of the computer. Sometimes the computer freezes or gets overwhelmed, and restarting the machine may resolve the problem. Bear in mind that most operating systems require that the computer be restarted after a new installation; otherwise the connected device will not work properly. Disconnect and reconnect the device – Especially if the device is connected via a USB (universal serial bus) port, disconnect it and then plug it in to a different USB port. This will allow the operating system to automatically resolve problems related to minor resource conflicts. If all goes well, the OS will detect the device (assuming it is plug-and-play) and install the correct drivers.

BIOS Tip – Start Your PC at a Certain Time Every Day

Have you ever wanted your computer to be up and running and waiting for you when you get to your desk? In your BIOS setting you will find a section called POWER OPTIONS or POWER MANAGEMENT. In that section of some BIOS, you will find an option called POWER ON BY ALARM. This feature can be used to turn on your computer at a set time every day. For example, if you are someone who arrives in your office every day by 9:00 am, you can set your computer to turn on at 8:55 am using this feature. Just set that time in the POWER ON BY ALARM option. Once set, your computer will start up at that time every day. Your system will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive at your desk.
